We All Need to Repent and Meet the Grace of God

Why do I need to say sorry? What have I ever done wrong? I’ve never hurt anyone. It’s all their fault. If only I had power I could do such a better job then them. I could fix everything if...

We, all people, think we are very good at judging right from wrong. We are also very good at convincing ourselves that we are right and that others are wrong. We are also very good at deceiving ourselves into thinking that we are actually able to do what is right. Yet, we couldn’t be more wrong. The world with its wars, greed, pride and arrogance is the way it is because all of those people have convinced themselves of the same thing. In many ways, we are no different, we just don’t have the same means or situation.

This Sunday we discuss the act of confession and repentance. How do we come to see and come to terms with the evil in our hearts and world? How do we have eyes to see the consequences of every little thing we do? And how can we ever make the world into what it needs to be, when we have no power unto ourselves to do it? Join us Sunday when we see our hope, the good news that far outweighs the worst news.

Proclaiming the Good News

The world needs good news, but not just any good news, it need good news that will change the world. It needs a good news that doesn't just last for a moment, but gives us something for the moment while we look with hope for the future. We as Christians have that good news. Jesus Christ has conquered sin, evil and death and now he is coming to establish his Kingdom. He is not a long way off either, so His Kingdom is already taking shape.

We carry this good news, but with all good news we are called to share it, to bring others in and enjoy it. This Sunday as we explore the liturgical moment of preaching, we explore God's call on all of our lives to share his good news.

Living in the Biblical Worldview

Every Sunday we read through the Bible and we dwell in portions of it repeatedly through our liturgy. The church fathers and mothers that came before us knew that this was essential to our development and a growing relationship with God. In fact, history and most intellectual thinking has proven this to be true throughout history. Even if the world convinces us otherwise, we need the Bible.

This is because the Bible is God’s revelation of himself throughout history. God has chosen to reveal himself in a certain way and through a certain people. Now we are being invited to experience and know this self revealing God. This Sunday we explore what this means and how this changes literally everything for us

A Christian Welcome

I think we all know how important welcoming is. We have experienced when a place feels welcoming and when it doesn’t. This Sunday, as we just begin to tap into the structure of the service I want to talk about 3 aspects of welcoming that are important to someone experiencing the Kingdom of God.

1st) God has called us to practice a kind of welcome that leads to people finding their belonging in the Kingdom of God

2nd) When we truly welcome, it isn’t always easy, because we are challenged to make room and follow what God is doing in this person

3rd) And most important, when we welcome someone we need to know what we are welcoming them into - and ultimately we are inviting people into the truly fulfilling and lifegiving relationship with God

As Christians know we the hope and love of Jesus. I think we all have a sense of where that is going, but sometimes it can feel a long way off. So, how do we live in and experience God's Kingdom of love, joy, and peace when we live in a broken world?

One of the important ways Christians have trained our minds, bodies, and spirits to live this duel or disjointed reality is liturgies. Liturgies, like what we do on Sunday, are important ways that we are invited to live into another world through the essential things Scripture teaches us and through the lifegiving relationship with God that is built through prayer. Join us this Sunday when we experience God's Kingdom in a special way through our liturgy.

The Importance of Seasons

Can you reflect on the seasons of your life? Times of great potential or great struggle, or love or loss. These all can consume us at different times and in different ways. I have been through many seasons already and though I can’t say I enjoyed all of them, I am truly thankful for all of them. Through prayer, reflection and Scripture reading, I know how God has worked and has been purposeful about everyone of these seasons.

This Sunday we explore the great purpose and importance of seasons. How God created them in the very beginning and how he purposed all of them to become Holy, something that reflects and speaks the glory of God. Join us this Sunday as we explore how to enter each season with eyes to see God’s work and purpose.

Gathering As a Community

This Sunday we start a new sermon series called “A Liturgical People”, which looks at the patterns of Christian life and life in general that help to shape us. The 1st part of this series in the summer looks at general aspects. In the fall we will look at the purposeful practices we find within our service that help us to grow in faith and love.

For this Sunday, we look at why we gather together around Jesus. Have you ever thought, or heard someone say something like, “I don’t need to go to church to be a Christian”. Many people believe this and yet it is failing to see some fundamental parts about who God is and who we are.

God is a community of three. Community is part of his identity. Ever since the beginning of creation he has made us to be like him, to be with him and to grow in community. This is part of our fundamental purpose. For us today we know some really practical reasons why this community is important (I won’t be able to list half of them). But I will be looking at how Christian community is where we meet God, how we help each other through sin, how we build one another up and only briefly how we grow in mutual service. Join us this Sunday when we explore our fundamental need for community centred around Jesus.
