Children’s Sermon - The World Changes With the Resurrection

The earth shook, the massive and heavy stone was rolled away and there appeared a figure that looked like lightning and whose clothes were as white as snow.

These are quite the events to accompany Jesus’ resurrection, right?

You would think that someone coming back from the dead was enough. You would think that God creating life where there was nothing, where there was death would have been enough, right?

Jesus’ resurrection already means a lot. It means that God has overcome everything, yet I want to look at these images a little more

Do any of you know what an earthquake is? What is happening to the earth?

  • The earth is being changed, challenged, shifting

The numerous women couldn’t move the massive stone that blocked the grave and yet God moved it and let light pour in. You can imagine it, right? Close your eyes. Here is this cave, that was dark and inescapable. You would have no way out. Yet, God opened the unmovable and let light pour in. God has opened the door to release us from death

  • God is moving the unmovable, opening the door on death, making light pour into the darkness

How about lightning and snow? Where do they come from? Where do they fall? Lightning and snow both have this reality of heaven coming down to earth. That is something that Mary Magdalene is experiencing for the first time when she meets this Angel. Yet, we hear that the angel’s appearance is like lightning and her clothing is white as snow. So we see that God’s glory and goodness are coming down.

  • Heaven is coming down - glory and purity

In Jesus’ resurrection as we see the earth shake, we know that the world is being changed. As the stone is rolled away, we know that light pours into the darkness and nothing traps us. As the angel dazzles in lightning and snow, we know that the glory and goodness are coming to earth.
